Richard Tulloch was terrific. All the children enjoyed his story telling and were a great audience. A number of students also had a chance to ask questions (some of which were very thoughtful) and Richard gave really good answers. I first saw him when I started teaching in the early nineties and thought he was great then. It was terrific to see "he's still got it":)
Book Parade was lots of fun! It was great to see so many children put in so much effort for their costume and/or poster. We had a great variety of characters including Harry Potter, Pearlie the Park Fairy, a number of Wimpy Kids and some of the "Naughtiest girls in school". Some of the more unique characters included the "pea" from the Princess and the Pea and a very colourful "Very Hungry Caterpillar", even Grandma Poss from Possum Magic came ;)
Book Fair was very successful :). Lots of children bought a book and took advantage of a number of bargains. The most popular title by far was the new book from Dav Pilkey - the author of the ever popular Captain Underpants - Ook and Gluk - we sold 26 copies [including 2 copies for the library]- I think that means about 1 in 10 families now have a copy at home! Other popular titles included:
- the Freak Street books;
- the journals for the girls - Dork Diaries to read and Follow your heart, Pink Cookies and Secrets to write in;
- the younger girls bought Buttons the Runaway Puppy;
- the younger boys bought Ben10;
- the art books - I expect to see a number of monster battles and terrible beasts as these "How to draw" books sold well;
- the Disney colouring books
- the joke books always sell well, as did...
- the 100 most disgusting things on the planet!
We will be able to buy lots of books with the commission, so we have - a very happy librarian and very happy students who will be able to enjoy the new books!
Thanks you everyone for making book week so great!
